What is a protocol converter?

The protocol converter is referred to as the protocol converter, also known as the interface converter. It enables the hosts on the communication network that use different high-level protocols to cooperate with each other to complete various distributed applications. It works at the transport layer or higher. The interface protocol converter can generally be completed with an ASIC chip, with low cost and small size. It can perform mutual conversion between the Ethernet or V.35 data interface of the IEEE802.3 protocol and the 2M interface of the standard G.703 protocol. It can also be converted between 232/485/422 serial port and E1, CAN interface and 2M interface.

Definition of protocol converter:

Protocol conversion is a kind of mapping, that is, the sequence of sending and receiving information (or events) of a certain protocol is mapped to the sequence of sending and receiving information of another protocol. The information that needs to be mapped is important information, so the protocol conversion can be regarded as the mapping between the important information of the two protocols. The so-called important information and non-important information are relative, and should be determined according to specific needs, and different important information will be selected for mapping, and different converters will be obtained.
