Fiber optic transceivers are usually used in pairs in copper-based wiring systems to extend the transmission distance. However, in such a network of optical fiber transceivers used in pairs, if the optical fiber or copper cable link on one side fails and does not transmit data, the optical fiber transceiver on the other side will continue to work and will not send data to the network. The administrator reported the error. So, how to solve such problems? Fiber optic transceivers with FEF and LFP functions can perfectly solve this problem.
What is the FEF on the fiber optic transceiver?
FEF stands for Far End Fault. It is a protocol that complies with the IEEE 802.3u standard and can detect the fault of the remote link in the network. With the optical fiber transceiver with FEF function, the network administrator can easily detect the fault on the optical fiber transceiver link. When a fiber link error is detected, the fiber transceiver on one side will send a remote fault signal through the fiber to notify the fiber transceiver on the other side that a failure has occurred. Then, the two copper links connected to the fiber link will be automatically disconnected. By using a fiber optic transceiver with FEF, you can easily detect the fault on the link and immediately troubleshoot it. By cutting off the faulty link and sending the remote fault back to the fiber optic transceiver, you can prevent data transmission to the faulty link
How does the optical transceiver with FEF function work?
1. If a failure occurs at the receiving end (RX) of the fiber link, the fiber transceiver A with FEF function will detect the failure.
2. Fiber optic transceiver A will send a remote fault to fiber optic transceiver B to notify the receiving end of the failure, thereby disabling the sending end of fiber optic transceiver A for data transmission.
3. Optical fiber transceiver A will disconnect the copper cable connected to its neighboring Ethernet switch. On this switch, the LED indicator will show that the link is disconnected.
4. On the other side, fiber optic transceiver B will also disconnect the copper link of its adjacent switch, and the LED indicator on the corresponding switch will also show that this link is disconnected.
